REVISION HISTORY
----------------
Superiority MIX - a multi-voice audio player
by Avery Pennarun (EnigmaLogic of SCS)
Version 1.2 - March 13, 1994
----------------------------
- STM files - GUS mode fixes
- FineVolume fixed - BPM speed effects
- Loop always mode fixed - Internal changes
- Not off-key
NOTE: Sorry about the long delay and few added features. I and SCS in
general have been VERY busy lately with a lot of different projects,
and MIX has been put on hold. A lot of other revisions were planned,
but this version has been sitting around for a long time and I thought
it was time to release what we have. (Gee, only 7 months late!)
ALSO NOTE: Check out ThunderShell, the generic MOD player front end by HCl
of SCS. It gives a nice menued interface to your MOD/STM/669/etc
files. Works with MIX and many other programs as well!
- Added support for .STM (Scream Tracker 2) format files.
- Fixed FineVolume effects. Maybe I should have tested those!
- You can now play songs, no matter what extension they have, and MIX will
detect their type. (great for trying all the files in a game directory
to see if any of them are MODs! Just MIX *.*)
- Many small improvements in the interface speed and feel
- Everlooping fixed - now when a song restarts, the speed is reset to 6.
- GUS stereo improved - now when something comes out of the left/right
speaker, it comes quietly out the other as well. (sounds better)
- Periodtable added to improve sound quality (some MODs sounded off-key)
- Now using the official Gravis SDK for GUS mode. Faster module loading,
more accurate volume control, and hopefully no more initialization bugs!
- Beats Per Minute now works a lot better. I still don't know if it's
quite right, though... largely because I don't understand it! :)
- A lot of internal changes, resulting in tighter, more flexible code.
- On-the-fly sound device selection removed... was it really useful anyway?
- Copyright date is now 1994!
- A new file, SCS.NFO, is now included with every SCS release.
- Much, MUCH internal reorganization to allow for Sound Blaster DMA mode
sometime soon. (this is almost complete but still has nasty bugs and I
don't have time to fix it immediately)
Version 1.1 - August 10, 1993
-----------------------------
- Bug fixes - Works with more MODs
- GUS clicks reduced - Supports TonePortamento
- Better time estimation - DOCs improved & corrected
- Fixed response when a sample # is given without a period #. MIX would not
play a note.
- MIX wouldn't do Portamento or Retrig effects AT ALL. The code was there,
but in some last-minute changes, things happened....
- DRASTICALLY reduced GUS mode "clicking." The sound quality is greatly
improved on many MODs.
- Tried and failed to eliminate clicking on non-GUS cards. A few samples
click, on certain notes, if the sampling rate is set at or above 20KHz
(or so), depending on the song.
- Added an option (-d) to disable card detection. However, if a GUS is not
detected normally, it won't work with this, either.
- Ultrasound was not being detected if the ULTRASND variable wasn't set.
Fixed, but you should set it anyway so other programs work! (Ultrasound
Install actually puts it there - you had to remove it on purpose!)
- You can now specify the sampling rate on the command line. (-s)
- Now you can play the next song in a set using N (like in v1.0), ENTER, or
SPACE. I thought N was a bit hard to remember...
- Fixed time estimation routine - now far more accurate in almost all cases.
- MIX now works WAY better with corrupted/old/plain-weird MOD's
- Squished a couple nasty "divide error" bugs in a very few MODs in GUS
mode. There might be a few more out there, though. We'll see.
- Cleaned up the "pattern select" function on the left/right keys.
- Added effect: TonePortamento - now ALL songs (I hope) should at least be
LISTENABLE, even if some vibratos, etc aren't there.
- Fixed a problem with the Portamento Up/Down effects in DAC mode.
- Proofread documentation (about time!) and fixed obvious errors, as well as
changing information to reflect the new features.
- HOW EMBARRASSING! The "known bugs" section contained incorrect information.
Version 1.0 stated that "Most arthropods" were known bugs. I just
realized that, since the classification "arthropod" contains such a vast
number of species, and most of these species remain undiscovered as yet,
the docs should be changed to read "MANY" Arthropods. Sorry about that
one, people...
Version 1.0 - July 28, 1993
---------------------------
- Supports the following cards:
- Gravis Ultrasound
- DAC (DigiLen) on LPT1/2/3
- Sound Master II (DAC only)
- Sound Blaster (DAC only)
- Many special effects unsupported as yet.
- Only files playable are MOD's, and then only some of them.
- GUS clicks a lot.
